I have completely sucked at this blogging thing today, because, I’ve had a horrible migraine! I have a couple of good posts started and waiting in the wings, but, they will have to be finished another day.
The migraine is the boss today and it is telling me to give it up and go to bed!
I get so disappointed and frustrated with these darn things (migraines) but, if I had just given into it hours ago, I probably could’ve had a nice, restful afternoon. I could have gotten comfortable in bed with my laptop and a book. I could have rested a while, read a while, putzed on the laptop a while - and then started all over again.
Instead, I sit here all day attempting to work, but, not accomplishing anything. I just move from one distraction to the next. I’ve just spent the last hour or so trying to get my laptop to connect to the internet when it is not right next to the router. I’m sure that was really a waste of time and I could’ve been relaxing instead.
I’m just so stubbornly convinced that I can make it work, when I just need to give in and realize that I just need a better router. I need a new router. I need a new router. I need a new router. There - are you listening, self??
Does anyone know if a wireless adapter/card can connect directly to a cable modem? After tonight’s stubborn activities, I think that maybe that is what is happening. I think that maybe it is not connecting to the router at all. I think that when it is in the office here, the laptop is connecting directly to the cable modem. It has so many fancy, newfangled ‘avenues’ with which to connect, that I think that may be possible. It has bluetooth and some wireless radio thing and who knows what else.
Anyway, me and my headache are gonna give in and go to bed. G’nite all!

1I feel your pain. This entire past week has been interrupted by a bad tooth complete with a abscess.
I’m a little confused as to whether or not you actually have a ethernet card and wireless card in your laptop as well as a “base” receiver to your router.
I just checked with my roomies, and the old setup they had a few years ago allowed them to use their laptops anywhere within about 100 feet. They had wireless cards in their laptops, which sent/received from an antenna that plugged into the router.
So maybe you need an antenna.
Hope this helps,
Shari

2How nice to have a comment on my new blog from an old MPAM buddy!!
Ouch! Your tooth! I hope you can get that fixed soon - it sucks to have pain in your head, doesn’t it?
Honestly - I have no idea what I have in my laptop! LOL It has wifi, a bluetooth radio, a wireless radio…. And the router has it’s own antenna. But from what all that I am reading online, the Netgear router (or this one anyway) sucks for wireless connecting!
I’ve got a friend in NJ who might be sending me a new one! *fingers crossed* Otherwise, another friend has showed me a LinkSys one that I should get - and I’ll start squirreling the money away for that.
Thanks so much for your advice - and thanks for visiting!
